The aim of Bullfinch Media is to bring clarity to financial communications. To help firms articulate complex ideas in a way that makes them easily understood by clients, potential clients and the wider media. I wanted to establish a business that helped people understand the power of good content and the damage done by an inability to articulate ideas.

Ours is an industry deluged by jargon. If we’re not drowning in a sea of acronyms then we find ourselves daily struggling to decipher a sort of Orwellian inspired corporate non-speak where nouns become verbs and everybody spends their lives being ‘impacted on’ or ‘delivering solutions’.

It’s not a laughing matter. Now, more than ever, the financial services industry needs to build bridges. It needs to fight misunderstanding and do battle with media-driven misconceptions. Hearts and minds need to be won back and the way to do that is through good communication. After all: to understand all, is to forgive all. However, all too frequently any attempt to increase understanding inevitably becomes bogged down in a quagmire of jargon and non-speak.

The fundamental driver of my business is to inculcate the importance of plain speaking.

Bullfinch Media is named after the once ubiquitous but now sadly rare English songbird. It is a shy animal that nests in the heart of thick hedgerows and woodland, far from human disturbance. The whereabouts of a Bullfinch is easily told, however, because it has a soft and melodious song.
